You can read the opening chapter via Books Live SA here<\/a>.\u00a0Two reviews of ‘AZANIAN BRIDGES<\/strong>‘ have come out to date, the first on the SFBook Review<\/strong> site here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Yes, ‘Azanian Bridges is the kind of science fiction we need…!’ (Not surprising I’d agree, of course!)\u00a0The second is by Dr. Mark Bould<\/strong> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the centrality of a current existing apartheid within the narrative counterfactual, I have also felt it ethically necessary to share author royalties with the organisation LongStoryShort<\/a>, which is aimed at increasing exposure of, as well as developing black writing within, South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also out soon is the new Short Story Day Africa<\/strong> anthology ‘Water<\/a><\/em>‘ with a great list of authors, lead by winning submission from Cat Hellisen<\/a>. As a reader for this, I was gobsmacked by the quality of general submissions, so all stories that made the final cut are of a very high standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently out are the African Monsters<\/strong> anthology, reviewed here by Joanne Hall<\/strong> here<\/a>\u00a0and I have a linked article about ‘The Tokoloshe<\/a>‘ on the Fox Spirit (publisher’s site). There will also be a launch and signing at Forbidden Planet<\/a> in London on March 3rd<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also out is Tade Thompson<\/strong> and my novella ‘The Last Pantheon<\/em>‘ in AfroSF2,<\/strong> reviewed twice by Locus. Firstly, by Lois Tilton<\/a> in their online site –\u00a0and then Karen Burnham<\/a> within the magazine itself.\u00a0\u00a0Finally, the ever excellent Bookshy<\/a> reviews the anthology \u00a0and will be loading a linked article exploring Tade<\/strong> and my experiences around collaborating on this novella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Tade<\/strong>, he goes from strength to strength in his writing – ROSEWATER<\/strong> sounds like a fascinating upcoming novel, to be published this year by Apex Books.<\/strong> His debut novel from last year, Making Wolf<\/a>, is still making waves – it is on the short list for a Golden Tentacle<\/a> award, winners to be announced March 7th Go Tade<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vincent Sammy<\/strong>, who provided the wonderful artwork for Azanian Bridges<\/strong>, has been shortlisted for a BSFA Award<\/strong> as Best Illustration, for his work on ‘Songbird’ (Interzone 257<\/em>).\u00a0The Nebula Awards<\/a> short list has been announced too – and a powerful list it is too, congrats to all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So to 2016 then, a year, I hope, for gains. May yours be happy and large!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, inevitably, there will be some losses too…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
