You can read the opening chapter via Books Live SA <a href=\"http:\/\/bookslive.co.za\/blog\/2016\/02\/09\/read-an-excerpt-from-nick-woods-debut-azanian-bridges-an-alternate-reality-thriller-where-apartheid-still-rules\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0Two reviews of &#8216;<strong>AZANIAN BRIDGES<\/strong>&#8216; have come out to date, the first on the <strong>SFBook Review<\/strong> site <a href=\"https:\/\/sfbook.com\/azanian-bridges.htm\">here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Yes, &#8216;Azanian Bridges is the kind of science fiction we need&#8230;!&#8217; (Not surprising I&#8217;d agree, of course!)\u00a0The second is by <strong>Dr. Mark Bould<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/markbould.com\/2016\/02\/21\/nick-wood-azanian-bridges-2016\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/nickwood.frogwrite.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/Azanian-Bridges-eBook-cover-1-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"Azanian Bridges - eBook cover\" class=\"wp-image-1216\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the centrality of a current existing apartheid within the narrative counterfactual, I have also felt it ethically necessary to share author royalties with the organisation <a href=\"http:\/\/mg.co.za\/article\/2015-03-26-long-and-short-of-it\">LongStoryShort<\/a>, which is aimed at increasing exposure of, as well as developing black writing within, South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also out soon is the new <strong>Short Story Day Africa<\/strong> anthology &#8216;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/shortstorydayafrica.org\/\">Water<\/a><\/em>&#8216; with a great list of authors, lead by winning submission from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cathellisen.com\/\">Cat Hellisen<\/a>. As a reader for this, I was gobsmacked by the quality of general submissions, so all stories that made the final cut are of a very high standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently out are the <strong>African Monsters<\/strong> anthology, reviewed here by <strong>Joanne Hall<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/hierath.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/01\/book-review-african-monsters-by-jo-thomas-and-margret-helgadottir-ed\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0and I have a linked article about &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxspirit.co.uk\/african-monsters-the-tokoloshe-by-nick-wood\/\">The Tokoloshe<\/a>&#8216; on the Fox Spirit (publisher&#8217;s site). There will also be a launch and signing at <a href=\"https:\/\/forbiddenplanet.com\/168192-fox-spirit-books-of-monsters-book-2-african-monsters\/\">Forbidden Planet<\/a> in London on <em>March 3rd<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also out is <strong>Tade Thompson<\/strong> and my novella &#8216;<em>The Last Pantheon<\/em>&#8216; in <strong>AfroSF2,<\/strong> reviewed twice by Locus. Firstly, by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/Reviews\/2015\/11\/lois-tilton-reviews-short-fiction-mid-november-2015\/\">Lois Tilton<\/a> in their online site &#8211;\u00a0and then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/Reviews\/2016\/01\/karen-burnham-reviews-afrosf-v2\/\">Karen Burnham<\/a> within the magazine itself.\u00a0\u00a0Finally, the ever excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/bookshybooks.blogspot.co.uk\/2016\/02\/book-review-afrosf-volume-2-edited-by.html\">Bookshy<\/a> reviews the anthology \u00a0and will be loading a linked article exploring <strong>Tade<\/strong> and my experiences around collaborating on this novella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for <strong>Tade<\/strong>, he goes from strength to strength in his writing &#8211; <strong>ROSEWATER<\/strong> sounds like a fascinating upcoming novel, to be published this year by <strong>Apex Books.<\/strong> His debut novel from last year, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Making-Wolf-Tade-Thompson\/dp\/149560747X\">Making Wolf<\/a>, is still making waves &#8211; it is on the short list for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/News\/2016\/02\/2015-kitschies-short-list\/\">Golden Tentacle<\/a> award, winners to be announced March 7th Go <strong>Tade<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vincent Sammy<\/strong>, who provided the wonderful artwork for <strong>Azanian Bridges<\/strong>, has been shortlisted for a <strong>BSFA Award<\/strong> as Best Illustration, for his work on &#8216;Songbird&#8217; (<em>Interzone 257<\/em>).\u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/News\/2016\/02\/2015-nebula-awards-ballot\/\">Nebula Awards<\/a> short list has been announced too &#8211; and a powerful list it is too, congrats to all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So to 2016 then, a year, I hope, for gains.
