Just a brief update this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I’ve added another SF in SA (27)<\/a> Essay, entitled: ‘One Language is Never Enough: On Both Harnessing and Resisting the Western Gaze.’ (<\/em>With both a debt and thanks to a wonderful writer, Rochita Loenen-Ruiz<\/a> – <\/strong>and ongoing warm wishes!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n I have a story, Dream-Hunter<\/em><\/a>, in the latest edition of Omenana Magazine<\/a>. But please read through the entire<\/strong> magazine, which has a wide variety of really good, really interesting African SFF<\/strong>, as well as an excellent article by Wole Talabi<\/strong><\/a> on ‘Why Africa Needs to Create More Science Fiction.<\/em><\/a>‘\u00a0\u00a0Wole<\/strong>\u00a0also has a wonderful\u00a02015 AfroSFF<\/strong><\/a> recommended short fiction list as well. Also on Omenana<\/strong> is a resource (again, kudos to both\u00a0Wole<\/strong> and Geoff Ryman<\/a>) dedicated to listing AfroSFF published throughout 2016 <\/a>– please contact Omenana<\/a> if you have something to add<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I’ve also added some links to my publisher NewCon Press<\/strong> for my debut novel AZANIAN BRIDGES <\/a>– strictly speaking it IS<\/strong>\u00a0a debut as my previous YA Novel, The Stone Chameleon<\/a>, is under 30K and more novella than novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking of novellas, the inimtiable Bookshy<\/a> explores the novellas of AfroSFv2<\/a>, including Tade Thompson<\/a> and my ‘The Last Pantheon<\/a>.’ Tade<\/strong> himself deservedly won the Golden Tentacle for Best Debut<\/strong> <\/a>at the Kitschies for <\/strong>MAKING WOLF<\/a>, against\u00a0a strong competing field, including A. Igoni Barratt’s<\/strong>\u00a0BLACKASS<\/a>. (Tade<\/strong> will also be joining Maureen Kincaid Speller<\/a> and Andrew Milner<\/strong> as presenters on\u00a0the Tenth\u00a0Science Fiction Foundation Masterclass in Science Fiction Criticism<\/em><\/a> in June.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n And, talking of awards, Aliette De Bodard <\/a>became the first person ever to win a double prize (both short AND Long forms) in the British Science Fiction Awards, 2016.<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, for those interested in reading AZANIAN BRIDGES,<\/a> several reviews are linked to: firstly, via the academic Mark Bould<\/strong><\/a>, secondly,\u00a0Andy Sawyer<\/strong><\/a> at The Future Fire <\/a>and (most recently) Eric Brown<\/strong><\/a> at The Guardian<\/a>.
