{"id":1346,"date":"2016-09-01T15:01:52","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T14:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nickwood.frogwrite.co.nz\/?p=1346"},"modified":"2016-09-01T15:01:52","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T14:01:52","slug":"blog-june-to-september-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nickwood.frogwrite.co.nz\/?p=1346","title":{"rendered":"Blog: June to September 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Just back from <strong>WorldCon<\/strong> in <em>Kansas City<\/em> where I was on a good number of panels, including giving a first reading from <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.grenadine.co\/sites\/mac2\/en\/participants\/2514\/Dr+Nick+Wood\">AZANIAN BRIDGES<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also delivered a well-received workshop on <em>Managing Anxiety<\/em> and spoke on <em>South African Science Fiction<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big news of this period though is the launch of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.AfricanSFS.com\/\">African Speculative Fiction Society<\/a><\/em>, with the parallel announcement of the <em>Nommo Awards<\/em>, for <em>Best African SF<\/em>. <strong>Chinelo Onwualu<\/strong> from Nigeria is the Chief Spokesperson \u2013 and <strong>Geoff Ryman<\/strong> (more on Geoff later) has been key as ever to helping drive this great initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other news in brief: I\u2019ve resold \u2018<em>Thirstlands<\/em>\u2019 to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sunvaultantho.wordpress.com\/\">Sunvault<\/a>: Anthology of Solarpunk and Eco-Speculation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<em>The Girl Who Called the World<\/em>\u2019 has just been released in the excellent anthology \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.upperrubberboot.com\/the-museum-of-all-things-awesome-and-that-go-boom\/\">The Museum of All Things Awesome and That Go Boom<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Upcoming of note<\/em>: <strong>Tade Thompson\u2019s <\/strong><em>ROSEWATER<\/em>. I hope to post a review of this novel in my next <em>SF in SA (28)<\/em> in the coming months.
